It is worth noting that Keats's idea of beauty's *permanence* contradicted a popular argument by the philosopher David Hume that humans are continuously reshaped by experience and hence liable to change their views. Thus beauty, as argued in earlier comments, is ephemeral. In the poem ("Endymion") for which the quote comprises the first lines, Keats strives to make his case that the power of beauty assures its immutability. Your choice to complement Keats's quote with an observation on the practitioners of that most elegant and rigidly quantitative of sciences, mathematics, is apropos.
