An odd thought came to me while watching the news last night. All the reporting was of course about the election today, but the one that jumped out at me was the one about how the President had invited some supporters and friends to the White House this evening to watch the election results come in. No big deal, that sort of thing has been happening since the country began. I'm sure if there was a White House ( there wasn't at the time) George Washington would have done the same. No, the thing that got my attention was the video of workers erecting barriers, in effect what looked to be a ten to fifteen foot wall at the entrances.

Now, I never really took an interest in what sitting presidents did, or did not do while awaiting the results of an election. But as far back as I can remember or when I did take an interest in this sort of thing (erecting barriers ) never took place. Granted that doesn't cover many sitting Presidents, just as far back as say when Nixon was in office really. Is it me or does it look like the current holder of the office is preparing for a siege? Circling the wagons as it were. To hunker down and hold the fort when and if he looses the race? It's kind of pointless really, as he'll still be President if he looses, at least until January. But I wouldn't put it past him to think about staying hold up till then as he contests the results of this election, and dare I say it... try to retain the office that way even if he's already lost the race?

A paragraph back I spoke of George Washington, the greatest fear of the people at the time when it came time for him to step down at the end of his term was that he wouldn't do so, using his troops to hold on to power. To in fact make himself President for life, or King as it were. As we all know the fears of the people were unfounded, and a peaceful transition of office took place.

So when I saw the barriers being erected on the news last night, as I said it got me to thinking. Well that and the current office holders statements in the first debate " stand down, and stand by" as well as the fact when asked by reporters if he'll abide by the peaceful transition tradition that he never really gave an answer, other than the usual political double talk. and recent reports of the caravan of his supporters seeming to run the bus of a group of Biden supporters off the road in Texas. I don't know, the whole thing just seems like the man is setting up for the long haul where even if he looses the race he'll try to hold on to the office despite the fact.

I don't know, perhaps I'm making a mountain of of a mole hill? Though I am sure that there will be some sort of silliness before this whole this is done with. Hopefully it'll just be all bluster, the like we've had to endure for the past four years with this President.

For my part I'm going to the polls today and voting, as I have always done in the past elections. No matter the out come I will abide buy the results because it's the will and the choice of the people.

Off to shower now....

We would all do well to remember that we value peaceful transitions of power. And also to remember that we do not have a king in the USA; the president is the head of only one of the three branches of government and we should not look to him/her to wield all the power.

    Quoting  :

He is my so called president. I also fear for my country.

Humans are the most dangerous animals on earth.

If only animals had the ability to know when to keep away from us humans they would be better off.

Trump has the courts stacked with conservative judges and the DOJ that caters to just his needs..No way he'll lose this election...He'll steal it...Democracy in the USA is all but gone..First thing he'll do is eliminate the 2 term limit for presidents!

There are some judges that are not conservatives .But that isn't supposed to matter. I do wish the DOJ would start doing their job. If they catered to Trump then there would be many dems indicted by now.

Thats an interesting take on all of this Outlaw....despite what the news reports are saying abt protesters...blah blah blah....it DOES seem like he is walling himself in....and he will call on his Proud Boys or any other group he has emboldened with his rhetoric. I just pray for the country and hope some semblance of trust and decency can be restored. The world is watching. The only ones who support continued nonsense are those more concerned about$$$ than people. A sad state of affairs. Time will tell . Stay Safe ~~

The barriers are very common. And there was rioting in the DC streets tonight so it seems they were well placed barriers.
